FOREIGN STUDENTS TSA SECURITY/BACKGROUND AND FAA VERIFICATION OF  AUTHENTICITY OF FOREIGN LICENSE, RATING & MEDICAL CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Any non USA citizen can learn to fly in the USA if he/she is in the USA legally with a current Passport and Visa. He/she must start with a 3rd Class FAA Physical, Student License and meet the FAA Ground & Flight Training requirements. Then pass a written and oral and flight exam.

2. A non USA citizen who holds a Private, Commercial, or ATP Pilot Certificate and a Medical Certificate may be issued a USA Private Pilot License VFR only based on his/her country’s Pilot and Medical Certificate. A FAA form VERIFICATION of AUTHENTICITY of FOREIGN LICENSE, RATING, MEDICAL CERTIFICATION must be completed and submitted. This form and copies of required documents must be faxed to the FAA in Oklahoma City, USA. Oklahoma will notify your selected FSDO of the verification & you will have 180 days to complete the training & Check Ride.

A non USA citizen who holds a Foreign Commercial (with Instrument Rating) or ATP Pilot Certificate, & a Medical Certificate, and has passed the FAA ATP Written Test & meets the Flight Time requirements may apply to take the FAA Oral & Flight Check the same as in b.

The applicant is then issued a “stand alone” USA AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT Certificate.

Any Foreign Pilot License holder could earn a “stand alone” USA Private Pilot License, if he/she takes a USA 3rd Class Physical, Then pass the Private Pilot Written Exam, complete the ground & flight training required by the FAA, and complete the Oral and Flight Check per the FAA PTS.

Pilot’s flight time from his/her country, counts towards the USA Private Certificate requirements.

C. Flight Training in aircraft over 12,500# MGTOW requires a TSA Background Check. Flight Training in aircraft under 12,500# MGTOW for other than Initial Private, Instrument or Multiengine, TSA Background is not required. TYPE Ratings (CE-500 or CE-525), Seaplane, Glider, Rotor, Balloon added to an existing rating do not require a TSA Background Check.

Complete Alien Flight Student TSA Application on line, get fingerprints, and send along with the $130.00 US fee. Please note approval may take several days.
